Your Opportunity
This assignment will be full time in Midland, TX. The role of Electrical Project Engineer is to work with our client on diverse assets across a large geographic area including Texas and New Mexico. The assets are a mixture of typical oil production operations that include several conventional gas operations and unconventional production. The work on this job will primarily be focus on Midland and Delaware basin unconventional support for Fiber and Electrical medium voltage distribution lines. This position requires an experienced candidate with proven technical, data management skills, and responsible for ensuring detail Engineering and construction work packages for Fiber and Electrical medium voltage distribution lines are delivered on time to meet the client's construction schedule.
The candidate is expected to handle a diverse workload and multiple tasks, and to effectively interact with various internal and external contacts. Work on smaller projects, and/or as a team member of larger projects, under the guidance of a Senior Electrical or Control Systems Engineer. The Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer certain control systems and electrical equipment or products for a project. A Fiber & EDS Project Engineer will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, design, and field work.
Your Key Responsibilities



  • Must work in tandem with the Engineering Assistants and Draftsmen


  • Typical Fiber and EDS design responsibilities range from initial determination of the pathway routing and construction alternatives based on site walkouts to final detail design generation. The engineer is fully responsible and accountable for the final design content and document generation to support the placement of physical fiber and EDS infrastructure supporting client Outside and Inside Plant communication facilities.


  • Responsible for conducting fiber optic detailed network design for middle mile and last mile fiber-based networks or Fiber to Facilities projects.


  • It requires an in-depth understanding of current fiber optic design standards and industry processes. It also requires a working knowledge to perform close coordination with site fielding staff and drafting personnel to support the final product.


  • Calculate and generate all necessary splicing prints/port assignments for Fiber installations


  • For the medium voltage distribution lines the engineer is responsible for the design and build systems that distribute power throughout a facility. This work on a project begins with designing new systems or improvements on old ones and creating blueprints.


  • Determine electrical equipment needs and quantities for development of new power systems.


  • Manage voltage drop, short circuit, power factor, system protection coordination and sag and stress in a timely manner.


  • Provide engineering support to operations and maintenances of power distribution systems.


  • Monitor performances of electrical and fiber systems and recommend improvements.


  • Maintain documentations of all engineering tasks performed for future reference purposes.


  • Interact with all client construction sites and suppliers.


  • Experience retrieving engineering data from multiple platforms or engineering drawings, interpreting the data, and properly distributing to technical teams and systems of record.


  • Compiling data, communicating, and providing information to construction staff.


  • Experience engaging with other employees on database systems and engaging external customers

    • Demonstrated strong teamwork skills and the ability to work with multi-discipline peers, managers, engineers, and planners. Interacts positively with people in other work groups.


    • Desired is ability to be self-directed or showing initiative.


    • Strong Interpersonal, analytical and communication skills


    • Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously


    • Functions as a technical specialist with minimal supervision


    • Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing


    • Must have good driving record and valid Driver's License.


    • Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful passing of a drug screen.


      Education and Experience


      • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology or sciences preferred or any other degree, specialized training, or experience, that makes the individual uniquely qualified to perform the job responsibilities preferred


      • Minimum of 3 years related work experience in OSP and/or ISP fiber detailed design. Highly preferred 5 years' experience. Familiar with construction focused on fiber builds


      • Minimum of 2 years' experience of medium voltage distribution Lines


      • Experience in interpreting client request and apply design standards to work product


        Field and office environment, working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
