We are looking for people who have potential and share our passion to live the Markel Style, which is described in more detail below.If you think you have these core attributes we want to hear from you.Job Summary:The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Manager, Director, or Senior Director of Claims Compliance with fulfilling their responsibilities to provide legal advice and services in connection with claims legal and regulatory matters to ensure Claims' compliance with applicable laws and regulations as well as internal policies and procedures. Provide legal advice and services in connection with the achievement of Claims' business objectives. Partner with colleagues across Markel and outside service providers to ensure functional and strategic goals are achieved while maintaining compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.Assist Claims Compliance team with claims legal and regulatory matters.Advice: Identify and understand the potential legal risks arising from claims legal and regulatory matters and assist the Manager, Director, or Senior Director of Claims Compliance with addressing such risks and providing practical, solution-based advice to clientsLegal Agreements: Develop and review legal agreements that include but are not limited to managing general agent agreements, claims service agreements, independent adjuster agreements, and third-party administrator agreementsCompliance Matters: In conjunction with the Manager, Director, or Senior Director of Claims Compliance, provide advice and guidance on compliance issues, including but not limited to, adjuster licensing and training, vendor agreements, and market conduct and financial exams in multiple statesPromote and enhance strong relationships with customers and channel partnersEducationBachelor's degree requiredJD requiredRN or other medical degree preferredCertificationInsurance certifications or designations a plusWork ExperienceBroad regulatory and contract advice experience requiredBroad experience across multiple Claims lines of business (including Worker's Compensation, Casualty/GL, Property/Marine and Professional Liability) requiredMinimum 5 years of Claims experience or equivalent combination of education and experienceExperience with P insurance Medicare/Medicaid compliance (including Section 111 reporting, lien negotiation and MSAs) preferredExperience with contract negotiation and drafting requiredExperience with broader Claims compliance obligation (including Fair Claims Handling and adjuster licensing) strongly preferredExperience with project/program management preferredExperience with GuideWire's Claim Center preferredSkill SetsExcellent written and oral communication skillsStrong analytical and problem solving skillsStrong desire for continuous improvementStrong organization and time management skillsAbility to deliver outstanding customer serviceIntermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Visio, Word)Comfortable working in a virtual teamFlexibility and attention to detailsPlease note: Markel has a phased approach for re-entry into our buildings that is designed to balance the ongoing health, safety, and well-being of our employees with operational considerations and regulatory/ governmental requirements and recommendations.
