Job Description
What we want
The Law Fellow - Clinical Benefits Specialist under general
supervision, is responsible for conducting academic legal research
that will contribute to the law school's scholarship, clinical
program, capacity-building, and project-based work. The Law Fellow
will report to the Professor of Law and work on academic legal
research, clinical and scholarship projects. The Fellow will work
closely with the professor and Institute for Healthcare Access
leadership to produce works that address important questions of law
and policy for real-world application.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire's
experience.

Note: This position is grant funded, currently for one year;
continued employment may be contingent upon availability grant
funding.
Qualifications
Required Education
Doctor of Jurisprudence
Required Licenses and Certifications
Must be licensed to practice law in Texas or another state or be
eligible for licensure
Preferred Qualifications
A law degree, paralegal with experience working with social
security and Medicaid or work experience with public benefit
legislation may be preferred
Strong legal research and writing skills, a demonstrated interest
in law and public benefits, and the ability to work independently
and collaboratively
One year of work or academic experience with sources of healthcare
finance or coverage, foster youth advocacy, substance use disorder,
or related areas may be preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Exceptional research and writing skills, including publications,
and health law-related interests in areas like health policy,
health justice, bioethics, healthcare regulation, and non-medical
drivers of health, including familial stability and child welfare,
etc
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Outstanding ability to interact effectively with people at all
levels within the university and with industry contacts
Responsibilities
Research & Other Duties
Researches, develops, and disseminates legal and public policy
analyses to inform and shape specific federal and state policy
Analyzes research data and summarizes results
Contributes to research papers, articles, and publications
May assist in grant applications and contribute to grant-funded
projects
Mentoring
Assists, mentors, and/or supervises law student researchers and/or
graduate students who are working on research and legal work
May develop educational programs and fora in which leading experts
from the public and private sectors examine important legal and
policy developments
Presentations
Prepares presentation materials on legal and public policy analyses
topic that may be presented to
small and/or large groups, such as speaking at continuing education
programs and presenting at academic and other conferences
Actively participates in the preparation of required legal and
public policy progress reports to research sponsors
