Job Description: We are looking for a dynamic technical leader who can drive EO/IR solutions development. They will have Engineering management responsibilities supporting the synthesis, definition, analysis, design, development, integration & test of electro-optic systems for airborne, ground, and maritime surveillance systems. This management role has both supervisory and technical responsibilities with challenging timelines, working to achieve a collective goal: deliver innovative, vital solutions within a fraction of the time and cost of industry norms.

Essential Functions

The following reflects management's definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

  • Manage an engineering team of approximately 10 reporting
  • Manage department budgets - Support program cost and schedule goals
  • Staff the team in support of current and projected programs
  • Help define total systems design, technology, and processes to meet mission requirements
  • Coordinate across functional engineering areas to design, develop and test products, resolve compatibility and interface problems across all subsystems
  • Perform department capacity planning in conjunction with other project leaders and functional managers
  • Develop department capabilities such Model Based Systems Engineering, Simulation, Modeling, Agile Development, Integration & Test
  • Support business develop activities including bid & proposal cost/schedule generation
  • Evaluate performance measures and ensure system requirements are met
  • Perform system and subsystem integration, technical risk assessment, technical planning, verification and validation, and supportability analyses
  • Understand, implement, & audit engineering processes on programs and projects
  • Create and update essential engineering documents including processes, specifications, reports, plans, technical memos, and presentations
  • Represent engineering organization both internal and external to the organization

    • Education - B.S. Degree in engineering, physical science or mathematics, M.S. Degree preferred
    • Experience - 12+ years of related experience
    • High level of experience in at least 5 of the following areas and basic capability in the other areas:
    • Management of an engineering department
    • Requirements management, allocation and flow down using DOORS or Cameo
    • Front-end concept development for new products
    • Model Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, & Agile Development
    • System-level performance analysis (e.g., image analysis, thermal analysis, structural analysis, end-to-end performance, reliability analysis)
    • Hardware/Software design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting
    • System-level requirements verification including analysis, testing, & demonstration
    • Project Engineering/Program Management of aerospace products with multi-site development teams
    • Manage and drive R&D program portfolio of solutions for on time performance to drive business growth
    • Understanding of defense products for the environments and platforms L3Harris supports
      • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance

        • Engineering Management - A track record of managing diverse & distributed personnel developing complex technology. Knowledge of digital engineering & modeling techniques including how their use benefit program execution. An understanding of agile development environments. Ability to work seamlessly across multi-site development teams.
        • Technical Acumen - Demonstrated through successful product and systems development experiences involving complex systems such as optics, detector arrays, digital video, processing electronics, pointing, stabilization, & control algorithms.
        • Requirements Development - Demonstrated ability to enter the customer's environment, discover how the customer will use the system, translate the voice of customer into requirements and trade-offs that can be evaluated via alternative designs; additional skill in successfully influencing system requirements desired.
        • Creative Solutions - Direct contribution to technical solutions that integrate multiple disciplines or technologies into non-obvious system architectures that provide meaningfully unique and differentiated capability; requires understanding of current and proposed competitive solutions, key performance indicators, and end-user mission objectives as well as understanding of interplay between technologies and engineering design.
        • Department Planning - An understanding of both technical and market roadmaps to drive department capability growth plans.

          • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills
          • Excellent organization and multi-tasking abilities with the ability to resolve conflicting priorities
          • Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbal) to technical and non-technical personnel
          • Ability to effectively plan and organize projects and manage priorities
          • Acute attention to detail and deadlines
