Samsung Electronics America Mobile Division's Strategy team works with key business leaders to develop, consolidate, integrate and syndicate the business strategy at the U.S. market level, spanning across Smartphones, Tablets, PC's wearables and accessory products. The team's mission is to help developing and executing market-winning business and GTM strategy based on fact/data-driven insights and analysis of the market. Director of Strategic Planning & Operations manages wide ranges of high level operational and project management tasks for the Mobile Business Strategy team. The Director engages in monthly, quarterly, annual and mid-term strategic planning and business analysis for the Mobile Division, and serves as the key point of contact for key workstreams across the organization including global office. Also serves as chief of staff for the VP of Business Strategy, engages in various cross functional activities and plays as key liaison with other business units and functions. Role and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning & MP Process Management (Monthly/Quarterly/Annual/Mid-Term):
    • Lead market-back strategic planning and annual management plan development process via collecting and synthesizing key market trends, business requirements and strategic priorities across key business units and functions, hence providing consolidated view of the market, business targets and key execution strategies
    • Manage annual/quarterly strategic plans and management KPI's which should be cascaded down to product/category as well as sales account and functional level to be tracked and managed throughout the year of the progress.--
    • Create and formulate clear and succinct narrative and quantitative analysis of the market landscape, competitive and customer analysis and how Samsung should position and navigate the changing market conditions and challenges to achieve the business goals and objectives.
    • Communicate, collaborate and project manage key cross-functional initiatives.
    • Iterate realignment, reinforcement of the key objectives, goals and strategy based on changes in the market dynamics and business situation in real time.--
    • Strategic Initiatives and Tasks Management
      • Track and manage various strategic initiatives, key tasks and requests in a systematic manner. (strategic Initiatives and tasks may come from Strategic Planning reviews, Top Management meetings, team workshops etc.)
      • Collaborate across cross-functional Samsung teams to track down key tasks and activities and provide periodic and ad hoc updates on the progress.
      • Organize and provide progress visibility to key stakeholders proactively
      • Cross-functional Project / Process Management:
        • Lead coordination and operation of cross-functional initiatives and projects to address specific business needs (e.g. Upgrade and Switching Innovation workshop)
        • Develop key narratives and build project plans to organize, track and manage the projects throughout the year
        • Conduct post mortems for enhancing the project outcome in the future
        • Strategic Business Operations:
          • Lead in developing and publishing weekly integrated operations reports that creates a clear analysis and narrative of how Mobile division performs across sales, marketing, SCM, financial and operational views., and also provides critical market/competitive insights that informs the organization for strategic changes.--
          • Lead coordination of weekly, monthly, quarterly business review meetings (WBR/MBR/QBR) to address key business and operational issues and resolve business decisions
          • Lead coordination of top executive management workshops and business reviews to continue alignment of key business priorities and strategies
          • Manages, coordinates and communicate division wide KPI's and MBO's with key executive stakeholders
          • Scans key macro US market trends and update top management of the key issues.--
          • Develop and manage whitepapers/data repository of key market trend data, business performance, analysis across Mobile Strategy team and also within the Division
          • Serve as a thought-leader and go-to-expert on all business related issues and engage the team members to solve market/business issues for top executive teams
          • Functions as the focal point to improve communications between customer teams, headquarters and corresponding SEA team members. Communicates daily between headquarters and SEA organization on sales plans, identification and monitoring of business risks and opportunities. Skills and Qualifications
            • MBA or Bachelor's Degree with 15+ years of relevant experience in TMT area (technology, media, telecommunications); Master's degree preferred.
            • 5+ yrs. of internal business strategy and/or management consulting experience, with heavy focus on consumer technology business, marketing, project management, business transformation
            • Strong quantitative skills and business acumen to understand business status and issues and drill down to identify solution paths in growing online channel business and shares.--
            • Ability to lead complex projects, and work effectively in a matrix environment
            • Ability to efficiently scope and execute concrete strategic initiatives
            • Demonstrated success leading teams and establishing effective working relationships with executives in varied areas, including global HQ counterparts.
            • Demonstrated strategic thinker who can turn strategic objectives into practical actions
            • Problem-solver with optimistic attitude & passion for delivering results.
            • High energy, works with a strong sense of urgency, highly responsive in a fast-paced environment
              • Expertise in developing business strategy, marketing and sales presentations, using Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Ability to support a cross-functional Samsung team to achieve customer contracted objectives and specific team goals within established time frames and requirements. Assist in and if needed direct the Samsung team in lab and field trials related to introduction of products sold to the customer.Physical/Mental Demands: Work is generally performed in an office environment. Operate a computer keyboard and view a video display terminal between more than 50% of work time, including prolonged periods of time. Requires considerable work utilizing high visual acuity / detail, numeric / character distinction and moderate hand / finger dexterity. The movement and transportation of equipment, most of the time is under 25 pounds. Performs work under time schedules and stress which are normally periodic or cyclical, including time sensitive deadlines, intellectual challenges and project management deadlines. Machines, tools, equipment, and work aids include PC's, printers, copiers, faxes and other equipment commonly associated with an office work area. May require working additional hours beyond normal schedule. Travel varies depending on position. Consistently demonstrates a commitment to policies and procedures, including but not limited to, attendance, confidentiality, conflict of interest and ethical responsibilities.
