Job Description:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and all subsidiary ledgers. S/he performs journal entries, account reconciliations and financial analysis and audit and cost report supporting documents; prepares monthly reports including LOS calculations for each hospital, and reviews accounts receivable to general ledger for reasonableness. The Sr. Accountant performs all of these duties while supporting the hospitals' leadership staff.

  • Perform reconciliations between the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers to ensure accuracy of accounting transactions.
  • Perform detailed review of the general ledger entries originating from the purchasing and accounts payable areas each month ensuring expenses are recorded in the proper period and account.
  • Prepare month-end journal entries to accurately record accounting transactions which include payroll, prepaids, other expense accruals, corporate allocations, and reclassifications.
  • Perform bank account reconciliations.
  • Revenue analysis; reviewing Accounts Receivable to General Ledger; working with Controller and Revenue Director to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain fixed asset ledger and depreciation system.
  • Analyze financial statements in terms of actual to budgeted dollars and volume.
  • Perform financial analysis; understanding and communicating any variances to the hospital lead staff and management team for ALOS, financial and statistical data.
  • Preparation of bi-weekly Productivity Reports; generated to management and facilities
  • Assist hospitals with budget analysis, expense management and any research as requested.
  • Prepare audit schedules as needed for external audit.
  • Prepare Cost Report supporting documents for each facility and coordinate and answer questions as needed. Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree, Accounting preferred
    • 5 - 7 years' experience, with both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations
    • 3+ years healthcare experience strongly preferred
    • Long term acute care industry experience preferred Skills
      • Knowledge of and demonstrated skill in using generally accepted accounting practices, standards and processes.
      • Knowledge of the Medicare reimbursement system and be adaptable to its changes.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      • Strong working knowledge of Google and Microsoft Office suite of programs.
      • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate accounting issues, collect data, establish facts and make recommendations.
      • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
      • Possess proficient PC skills and the ability to use Google Sheets and/or Excel and other finance/accounting software.
      • Ability to define realistic, specific goals and objectives and to prioritize effectively
